This year's UDIA NSW State Conference set the stage for a transformative discourse on Australia's housing crisis. Bringing together industry-leading developers and planning experts, the agenda encouraged participants to unpack the complexities and challenges of filling Australia’s development pipeline.
The need for a shift in attitudes and policies
A prevailing theme throughout presentations and panel sessions was the need for a paradigm shift in attitudes and policies to bring about rapid and meaningful change.
Whilst infill developments, Build-to-Rent projects, mixed use, greenfields and social and affordable housing were all discussed, the ongoing obstruction to new developments was not, 'what to build' or where - rather, how to streamline and expedite the planning and approval processes. Developer’s lamented the time it was taking to receive council approval, which is resulting in rising costs and jeopardising project feasibilities.
Speakers emphasised the pressing need for more collaboration across industries, governments, and communities if new housing targets are to be achieved.
National, State and Local governments and agencies were being urged to take greater action towards removing obstructions in planning and fast-tracking infrastructure projects where they were needed. This included re-prioritisation of funding towards core infrastructure, and increasing stakeholder alignment by eliminating internal bureaucracy and streamlining communications between agencies.
Meanwhile, back at the stables...
UDIA had transformed the venue's iconic stables into distinct exhibitor spaces, providing a unique backdrop for our exhibition.
For an industry grappling with a range of challenges, the event provided a timely opportunity for our team to meet with developers and showcase how Simpel could streamline processes and enhance efficiencies across the project lifecycle.
